Figurative, and using the language of religion, this work explores the relationship between icons, light, and mystery. The work is highly reflective, and select parts are burnished to a high shine, making the architecture and figurative imagery sparkle and radiate within an unbroken field of gold. The wooden panel beneath the image is prepared with traditional chalk and glue gesso. The gesso in engraved like a copper plate, but much deeper. The panel was then water gilded, and instead of filling the incisions with color as you would a print, the gold reflects the light creating positive and negative light sensations.
